The Empordà’s Marshes are the major wetlands in Catalonia. Are located in the Empordà’s plain, between the mouths of rivers Fluvià and Muga, in an area characterized by current watercourses, the ancient river mouths and straightening water systems and irrigation of crops that have historically been a place rich in fresh water.

It’s one of the natural areas of Catalonia with a greater variety of animal species.

More than 300 species of wetland birds make their shelter and resting place, many of them protected and of great beauty.
